About This Tool

The Discount Calculator helps you work out the real cost of an item after a percentage discount has been applied.

Instead of estimating a sale price in your head, enter the original price and the advertised discount. The calculator shows both the amount you save and the final price you pay.

It can be useful when comparing sale prices, checking store discounts, planning purchases, or simply confirming that a discounted price has been calculated correctly.

How to Use

  1. Enter the item's original price, then enter the discount percentage.
  2. Select Calculate Discount to see the result. You'll get the amount taken off the original price and the final price after the discount.
  3. For example, if a store advertises 25% off an $80 item, enter 80 as the original price and 25 as the discount. The calculator will do the rest.

Example

Suppose a product normally costs $120 and is on sale for 30% off.

A 30% discount on $120 is $36. Subtracting the $36 discount from the original price leaves a final price of $84.

Original price: $120
Discount: 30%
You save: $36
Final price: $84

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate a discount?

Multiply the original price by the discount percentage divided by 100. This gives you the amount saved. Subtract that amount from the original price to find the final price.

What is 20% off $100?

A 20% discount on $100 saves you $20, so the final price is $80.

Can I use decimal discount percentages?

Yes. You can enter discounts such as 12.5% when a promotion does not use a whole-number percentage.

Does the calculator include sales tax?

No. The calculator works out the price after the discount only. Any tax that applies to the purchase would need to be added separately.

What does “amount saved” mean?

The amount saved is the difference between the original price and the discounted price. For example, reducing a $50 item to $40 means you saved $10.

Can I calculate discounts greater than 100%?

A normal retail discount should not exceed 100%. A 100% discount makes the final price zero, while anything above 100% would not represent a standard product discount.
